Immigrant Plays
In the Humanities part of the Force of Friction project, we created plays about the different perspective of undocumented immigrants. Not only were these in the perspective of teenagers, but all of them were based off of true stories. The play that I took part in was called, "The Story of Maribel". And I played the mother of the main character, who was named Anna. My character was trying to get her daughter to America to escape the violence and poverty of their home in Central America. This project changed my perspective about the undocumented immigrants that come here, and now I carry more sympathy. Especially about the way they get here, and how many of them die trying to get to America. It's extremely hard for someone to come to a whole new country without much choice, and try to adjust to a whole new language and culture. I hope that some day their government will do something to help these people and decrease crime rates in places in Central America so that people can be happy in their own home.
